Another News Byte about Summit Announcing New Moon

November 24, 2008

Summit Officially Announces New Moon Movie

After huge midnight and opening day numbers, Summit Entertainment officially greenlit a sequel to Twilight, based on the Stephenie Meyer novel New Moon.

New Moon will pick up where the original left off and the relationship between main characters Bella and Edward. In the novel, Edward leaves Bella to protect her from the threat of vampires. It will be interesting to see how it plays out since Robert Pattison, the new teen heart throb due to this movie, has a smaller part in the sequel.

We already knew this a few months ago, but their press release confirms the follow-up and hopefully puts excited fans at ease. A month ago Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg was already working on an adapted script for New Moon and the third novel Eclipse. There are four books in the series and they’ve sold over 17 million copies worldwide.

No word on production schedules or release date yet. Nor have we heard anything on the early rumors of shooting New Moon and Eclipse back-to-back.

You can read the entire press release below, plus a letter to the fans from stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattison (courtesy of Deadline Hollywood Daily).
